Fall Prep: Indoor Air Quality for Your HVAC

It’s vitally important that you maintain your home’s AC unit throughout the year. If not, you may experience more than just a funky smell the first time you turn on your heater. Poorly maintained HVAC systems can cause low-quality air, which can lead to headaches, eye irritation, and fatigue.

As the seasons come and go, make sure that you implement the right kind of changes while also giving your system a good check-over so you can maintain clean air in your home.

Check Air Filters Regularly

If you have dirty air filters, they can drastically influence your indoor air quality. HVAC maintenance is crucial here, as it will give you increased comfort and reassurance to know that your system is working as it should and not filling your home with pollutants. Ideally, you should be changing out your air filters every 12 weeks or so.

Let Fresh Air into Your Home

It is also important to let a lot of fresh air into your home. Not letting fresh air into your home from time to time can lead to reduced airflow, which can contribute to mold issues. Be sure to open your windows whenever possible, which will allow fresh air to circulate, removing odor while also ensuring that your home is nicely ventilated. This, combined with changing your air filters, is the best way for you to make sure that your indoor air is as pure as it can be.

Test Carbon Monoxide Levels

Carbon monoxide is an invisible gas that can be lethal to both humans and pets. Sometimes, leaks from appliances, like stoves or furnaces, can cause high levels of carbon monoxide that is unsafe for humans and pets.
If you have a newer home, it probably has a carbon monoxide detector that will alert you when it is hazardous to be in the room. We recommend checking your detector monthly to ensure it’s still functioning properly. If you don’t already have a detector installed, we highly recommend installing one. Remember that good air quality involves more than simply trying to keep dust away!

Invest in Purifying Products

Maintaining your indoor air quality on your own can be challenging, so we recommend investing in one or more of the following products to ensure outstanding air quality. Each of these devices reduces air pollutants, including viruses, by removing harmful particles and recirculating the air back into the room.
